Ideas for Everyone
-
Supply
your school principal with a copy of the article carried by the
Riverside Press Enterprise on October 4, 2001, regarding the efforts
of the children in San Jacinto and "The
Great Big Teddy Bear Hug".
You may even ask your local newspapers to carry the article
in support of your efforts.
-
Encourage
your children and those of your community to become involved in this
growing “children’s crusade”.
-
Openly
promote the collection of teddy bears and help them be ready for
pick up by the Freedom Riders as they pass near your community.
If the caravan does not come into your town, arrange for your
teddy bears to meet the caravan on its route.
-
Promote
the collection of donations among your local business community for
incorporation into The
American Freedom Ride Education Fund
at he American Heritage Education Foundation (a California 503(c)
non-profit corporation). These
funds will be invested in mutual funds and made available, in the
form of educational scholarships, for the children.
-
Organize
a gathering of school children to welcome and send-off the caravan
as it passes through your city. Encourage children and their families to attend the event and
bring a teddy bear (with a personal note attached) and/or their
donation to The
American Freedom Ride Educational Fund
at
he American Heritage Education Foundation.
- Encourage
local officials to meet the caravan at one of the hundreds of
scheduled stops of the caravan.
- Please
be sure to sign the well-wishers book that will accompany the teddy
bears. This book is an
important documentation of the journey and will be given to the New
York City Mayors Office for viewing by the public and future
incorporation into any memorial.
-
Ask
your local police, fire department, or other emergency support
services to escort the caravan through your community.
