The Great Big Teddy Bear Hug
On Friday, October 26, 2001, the children at San Jacinto Elementary School loaded up a truck with their collection of teddy bears, initiating The American Freedom Ride to carry their Great Big Teddy Bear Hug to the children who lost family members to the terrorist attacks of September 11.
Thank you letter from the Port Authority Police Department
The Truck that carried the teddy bears from San Jacinto, California to New York City represents a very special showing of national love and support for the families of the firefighters and law enforcement officers who were lost during the September 11th attacks. Not only did it haul teddy bears and notes of encouragement to the thousands children who are hurting, it also gathered the signatures and messages of thousands of firefighters and police officers from throughout the United States, many of who joined the ride and escorted the teddy bears through their areas. We owe a debt of gratitude to the multitude of law enforcement officers and firefighters who came out to sign the truck as it carried "The Great Big Teddy Bear Hug" across the country. These heart-rending messages must be read to be appreciated and we will make every effort to keep the truck accessible for public viewing.
